Some random thought
I was thinking of how much our generation has seen. Please comment add some major event that has happened in our lifetime.
I'll start us off:

Attempted assasination of President Reagan
Fall of the Berlin Wall
End of Communism in Russia
The Challenger
The Columbia
Gulf War v1.0
Gulf War v2.0
Big Tsunami

What about the Oklahoma City bombing?

  • The OJ trial
  • Princess Di's death and the big deal about the paparazzi hounding celebrities.
  • Video Killed the Radio Star -- wasn't that the first music video to air on MTV?
  • Legalizing gay marriage in Holland, Belgium, Spain, and Canada; and the huge push for gay rights
(gay marriage may be on the ballot during MN's next election!)
  • Columbine shootings
  • The 2000 U.S. election where Bush was elected by the call of the Supreme Court after some disconcerting events surrounding Florida's vote tallies (hmmmm...)
  • The Olsen Twins turned of legal age (and one picked up an eating disorder and some drug habits)
  • Enron scandal
  • The Unabomber
  • The Wacko from Waco (as my mom and I call him) -- David Koresh (sp?) and mass cult suicide in Texas
  • The cloning of Dolly the Sheep
  • End of Apartheid in S. Africa
  • The European Union makes it easier for us to go to Europe -- we don't have to do currency exchanges every time we go to a different country; we just need to switch to Euros!
  • International ban of CFCs in hopes to help the ozone layer; massive recycling programs underway; invention of Hybrid vehicles... but, of course, we still have huge steps to take in environmentalism and global warming continues
  • Tupac was shot in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip after a huge boxing match... but there was never even a suspect!
  • The human genome project completed its map (I think they're done now...). I know they've finished the dog genome.

...and the LA Riots, Rodney King trial.

How about... the fall of Saddam. Or the Laci/Scott Peterson hoopla. Dru Sjodin. Okay so those last two aren't exactly world-wide earth shattering, but they were a pretty big deal nonetheless.

Jon Benet Ramsey?

Um, the girl missing in Aruba.

Magic Johnson's AIDS revelation.

The Kobe trial.

Jeffrey Dahmer.

That's all I got. My brain hurts right now. Stupid meetings.

all of the michael jackson stuff.

You mean something like, oh I don't know, Iraq? lol I saw you were into S&M, couldn't help but leave a lil hello. The picture didn't hurt either. ^-^ A pleasure to meet you.

Ours was the first generation to experience...

  • The first home console video game systems (Atari Pong, Atari 2600, Intellivision, ColecoVision, NES...but the very first home console system was the Magnavox Odyssey)

  • The original theatrical release of the first Star Wars films, as well as the release of the special editions of the original trilogy in the 90's

On a cosmic level, we saw...

  • The impact of comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 on Jupiter

  • The first unmanned missions to Mars, Viking 1 and 2, Pathfinder, and now Spirit and Opportunity

  • Halley's Comet, which passes every 75-76 years. It last passed in 1986, and will not be seen again until the summer of 2061.

Pop culture wise, we had...

  • The Rubix Cube

  • The rise of cell phones

  • The birth of MTV

  • Johnny Carson leave the Tonight Show

  • The birth of reality TV

Wait a minute....what about the birth of the internet?!?! The whole reason we're able to do this in the first place!!! Not to mention, the infamous Dot Com Crash and the Y2K scare.

The most obvious...

Mariah was born
St Patricks Day 3-way
